Regardless of politics, we lost some business-friendly MPs last Thursday
Comments |
Irrespective of party affiliation, there has to be sympathy
for good MPs swept away by general election swings.
Especially when they took a keen interest in business and
economic affairs.
On May 6, we said goodbye to, among others, Paul Clark
(Gillingham), Jonathan Shaw (Chatham and Aylesford), Steve Ladyman
(Thanet ) and Gwyb Prosser (Dover).
Both were personable and, from a media point of view, accessible
and willing to talk.
Mr Clark, who was a transport minister before he was booted out,
took a keen interest in the Medway and wider Kent economy and
worked for their improvement.
As minister responsible for the south east and the disabled, Mr
Shaw was a frequent visitor to local firms and businesses like
Royal British Legion Industries that help disabled people into
work.
Messrs Ladyman and Prosser were always happy to chat about the
economic and business challenges facing east Kent.
Their successors deserve our congratulations. But firms and
those with the economy and regeneration in mind will be hoping they
become equally involved in the county’s economic agenda. And good
luck to the ousted politicians in their lives after
Westminster.
