Hair care man sees P&G put his brand out to pasture
Comments |
No wonder Graham Webb, Kent’s haircare
entrepreneur, is less than happy.
The chairman of the Kent Excellence in Business Awards has just
been told that his range of products under the Graham Webb
International brand, sold in the United States, is to be put "into
sunset". In other words, scrapped.
Around 10 years ago, he sold the brand to Wella which later sold
it to conglomerate Procter and Gamble.
Graham, who overcame spina bifida and humble background to
become a successful entrepreneur, frequently visits the States to
promote the brand and delights in the line that millions of
American women share a shower with him every day!
But all that is ending as P&G decides that the brand is not
part of their global strategy. Graham has been caught out by a new
era of global marketing which does not embrace products that sell
well in one or two markets but are not in others.
The US trips may dry up, and stifle opportunities to sell his
amazing life story Out of the Bottle.
Graham’s name may be off the bottle, but at least he he has the
consolation of a healthy bank balance.
