Spelling blunder leaves Medway council chiefs red-faced over parking sign in Gillingham
Council chiefs have acted swiftly to end its agreement with a sign firm after this embarrassing spelling blunder.
The official sign in Connaught Road in Gillingham advised of parking restrictions in the road.
A fine mess! The parking sign is opposite of the correct spelling! Picture: Trevor Youens
But the sign makers now have to pay the price after displaying poor spelling skills.
Instead of reading "pay at machine opposite" the sign said "pay at machine oppisite".
Eagle-eyed Trevor Youens spotted the sign yesterday morning.
But, after we brought the matter to the attention of Medway council, the contractor no longer works for the authority.
A statement issued today by the council said: "The sign has been removed and the contractor is no longer working for Medway Council."
