Car hits wall in town centre

by Anna Roberts

Workers reported hearing a series of bangs as a silver car went through a wall in Maidstone.

One man said “I thought a bomb had gone off” after the incident in Romney Place at 12.33pm today (Friday).

A silver car crashed through a car park wall and into the road. The female driver has suspected chest injuries and was being treated at the scene by paramedics, a police spokesman said.

He confirmed Romney Place – which provides access to Sainsbury’s and the Mall Chequers – is currently closed to pedestrians and vehicles with traffic building up along Palace Avenue.

Scott Boseley, 21, of Chatham, works in a nearby office. He said: “I heard a bang and rushed to the window."

He saw two cars clip each other and one shoot forward. He said: "She flew over the wall and bricks were sent flying into the paths of other cars.”
