Could this be an upside down rainbow?

by Angela ColeUpside down rainbow

Could this really be an upside down rainbow?

That's what David Wilcock, of Doddington Court, Maidstone, believes he snapped in his back garden last Tuesday, while feeding his fish.

"I think this is pretty unusual. It really looked like an upside down rainbow," he said.

    Sundog

This is a lovely image and a classic example of what's called a sundog. (part of one anyway's). Sundog's are formed in high based cloud such as the one in the photo or by tiny ice crystals in the air on a cold day. The ice crystals act as a colourful prism forming the rainbow effect as we see.
