Falklands War veteran Simon Weston will be among guests at this year’s War and Peace Show.
It will be the 30th anniversary of both the show and the Falklands conflict, and to mark this, organisers are offering free admission to veterans as well as those from the Second World War.
The military extravaganza will be held at the Hop Farm, Paddock Wood, from Wednesday, July 18, to Sunday, July 22.
Simon said: “I love history and I just love the fact that people are keeping it alive through living history groups. I think it’s just wonderful.”
The former Welsh Guardsman was severely burned in June 1982 when the Sir Galahad was bombed in Bluff Cove. As a result of his injuries he has undergone more than 70 operations.
Since then, he has become an author, charity campaigner and built a reputation as an inspirational speaker, as well as a businessman.
He said: “What appeals to me about the War and Peace Show is the emphasis on peace; people dressing up in 1940s clothing. I just love all that. It’s nice that’s it’s done in an entertaining way, not glorifying or glamorising war but making it interesting.”
The show features the biggest display of historic military vehicles in the world.
