As an Army wife, Lisa Mulvaney felt she needed something to
keep her and her young son occupied during the six months her
husband will be serving in Afghanistan.
But her idea for a little community event at Invicta Barracks in
Maidstone turned into more than just something to pass the
time.
Instead, more than 60 children and their families have said they
would like to take part in her charity six-mile walk around the
site.
Mrs Mulvaney has also roped in children’s favourite Peppa Pig to
officially start proceedings.
The walk on Saturday, March 31, is in aid of the charity My Daddy
Is A Soldier Adventures, which supports the families and children
of Servicemen and women while they are away.
Mrs Mulvaney, who will be walking with her two-year-old son
Casey-Jay, said: “It started out small but it has just
snowballed.
“I wanted to raise money for the charity as they support children
whose parents have gone to Afghanistan or are preparing to
go."
Her husband Jamie is preparing for his first tour of duty. The walk
around the barracks is only open to the families of Servicemen and
women, but you can donate to the cause by visiting www.mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/invictapark
