Arrests following vehicle thefts
Detectives investigating the theft of transit vans and
tippers in Kent have arrested four people.
Between December
19 and January 10, a number of the vehicles were reported
stolen across Aylesford and Medway.
On the evening of January
10, following an automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) camera
activation, two vehicles were stopped on the M25 near
Orpington.
Four men in the vehicles, a
27-year-old from Middlesex, a 34-year-old from Rochester, a
25-year-old from Croydon and a 66-year-old from Southwark
were arrested on suspicion of theft of motor
vehicle.
They were questioned by
officers, before being released on bail pending further
investigation until March 5.
Investigating officer, DC Raj
Dusanjh said: "Many of the vans that have been targeted have had
valuables such as tools or building supplies in them.
"With the four arrests we have
made our investigation is making good progress, but I would
encourage people to remove all valuables from their vehicles before
leaving them unattended.
"Where possible, owners should
leave their vehicles in a garage, or a secure car park or well lit
area to deter thieves.’
