Snow misery for motorists
A layer of snow did not prevent many children going to school in
the Maidstone area, but motorists were faced by gridlock in several
places.
Although the town centre roads were clear, there were hold-ups
on major routes and motorways in the area.
On the A20 London Road at West Malling, Maidstone bound traffic
has been reported as extremely slow and queuing back past the A228
junction.
Drivers on the M20 were also stuck in very slow-moving traffic
on the London bound carriageway between Junction 7 (Detling) and
Junction 5 (Aylesford).
On the M20 eastbound carriageway from Junction 8
(Leeds), long delays were also reported due to a broken down
vehicle, which left two lanes closed.
Motorists on Blue Bell Hill also faced long delays but Detling
Hill was still passable despite the snow.
