A second annual event was held in Maidstone town centre for Black History Month
Youngsters join in the dancing at a Black History Month event in Maidstone
African-flavoured sights and sounds brought Maidstone town centre alive at the weekend.
Jubilee Square was the setting for a day celebrating Black History Month on Saturday when the Maidstone Alliance for People of African Heritage filled the area with live music, speakers, storytellers and plenty of food for all.
Co-organiser Ngaio Goll said: “We had a fantastic event, it was wonderful."
The event was opened by the Mayor of Maidstone, Cllr Clive English while the town’s MP Helen Grant (Con) also spoke.
A series of groups including a steel band and an African drumming and dance group took to the stage while there was also an array of stalls with face painting and workshops by authors.
It is hoped the event will return next year, which would be its third year in the town.
