December 21: £277,000 goes on new KCC website
WHETHER you
consider it money well spent or not probably depends on whether you
consider it a priority at a time when we are about to see a fairly
painful squeeze on public sector spending.
But KCC seems pretty happy with its
new website which
it reveals has cost £277,000 so far and and by the
time it has completed an overhaul, considerably more.
I’m bound to say that it certainly
looks cleaner and more attractive although I didn’t think the
previous version was all that bad. And the website does at least
give a comprehensive account of why the changes were brought in,
which is to be commended.
Interestingly, the link to "news"
takes you directly to video clips provided by Kent TV but you don’t
know that until you click on the relevant item you’re interested
in.
And in what some might consider a
cheeky bit of shameless propaganda, the first item you get to on
the "more news" link is KCC leader Cllr Paul
Carter – seated behind a desk like a President - talking
for five minutes about the authority’s recent glowing report from
the Audit Commission.
I don’t know why but for some reason,
I was reminded of Pravda and its loyal recounting
of the achievements secured by the leaders of the former Soviet
Union.

I’ve spent part of today looking back
at various cuttings of the big political stories of the year in the
county, preparing for a review.
It always surprises me just how much
has happened in one year and one of the pleasures is seeing what
people had to say about various events over the last 12 months.
I’ll be posting a "who said what"
quotes of the year quiz later on this week on the blog. But to get
you in the mood, can you remember who said the following and about
what?
"Modest, sensible and
fair."
And
"I have the vulgar attributes
that can connect with the public."
Answers tomorrow with the rest of the
quiz.

A small piece of good news for KCC and
its efforts to get its - sorry, our - money back from three
Icelandic banks.
A second payment came back last
week from the Heritable bank for the sum of £2,356,094.38
(precisely).
