The Mote suffer last-ball agony against Whitstable

The Mote were involved in an
eventful Shepherd Neame Kent League Division 1 game at Whitstable
last Saturday which ended in a tie.
With The Mote needing just one run
to win and their last pair at the wicket, Australian Kym Daley
attempted to slog a delivery off Max Campbell and was bowled.
It was far from being the first
time this season that The Mote had squandered a winning
position.
Set a modest target of 148 to win,
it looked all over for The Mote when they collapsed to 55-6 in the
face of a penetrating spell from former Kent seamer Ben Trott, who
finished with 6-38 off 15 overs.
But then a defiant seventh-wicket
stand of 64 by Chris Back (46) and Ed De Lucy, who smashed six
sixes in his 45, breathed fresh life into The Mote’s innings and
they were poised to pull off an unlikely victory before Daley
departed for a duck.
Earlier, the Whitstable innings had
been held together by a superb 86 from Sam Denly who, along with
opener Campbell (27), was the only home batsman to get into double
figures.
