Maidstone United joint-managers Alan Walker and Lloyd Hume have
resigned.
The duo have overseen the reformed club's rise from Kent League
level to their current place in mid-table of the Ryman League
Premier Division.
Chairman Paul Bowden-Brown said: "It was with great regret that
I have had to accept the resignation of both Alan and Lloyd, after
a long conversation both managers felt they had taken the club as
far as they could. It is as simple as that.
"It is a sad day, but I have always said, no individual is
bigger than the club.
"I would like to place on record my sincere thanks to both
managers for the wonderful job they have done over the years in
taking our club to this level of football and I wish them every
success in the future."
The duo's final game in charge was an abject 2-0 home defeat
against Aveley on Saturday which left the Stones 15th and just
three points above the relegation zone.
They won the Kent League and Cup double with the Stones in
2005/06 and won Ryman League Division 1 South the following season
before keeping the Stones up with a 1-0 win at Folkestone in a
relegation-decider on the final day of the 2007/08 season.
The Stones have been plagued by financial concerns this season
with Walker, Hume and the players agreeing to defer payment of
their wages last month as the Stones faced-up to a series of
postponements which saw the income from gate-receipts at their
temporary home at Ashford's Homelands ground dry-up.
Mr Bowden-Brown insisted the managers had not been asked to
present the idea of further pay deferals to the players, but said
he "could not guarantee there won't have to be further cuts in the
future."
A meeting between Stones general manager Bill Williams and Mr
Bowden-Brown is scheduled for Monday afternoon with
appointing a caretaker manager until the end of the season top of
the agenda.
It is thought experienced midfielder Jay Saunders could be asked
to take on a player-coach role for Tuesday night's home game
against Hendon.
