James Pinnock has become the latest player to leave Maidstone United

Maidstone boss Peter Nott has paid
tribute to the professionalism of leading scorer James Pinnock –
despite the forward quitting the club ahead of an expected move to
Margate.
Ten-goal Pinnock (pictured) appeared in last Saturday’s 3-0
defeat to Harrow and the 1-0 win over Billericay at Homelands on
Tuesday, but had already put in his notice to quit the Stones.
Nott explained: "James Pinnock
contacted me after training on the Thursday and said he intended to
leave within seven days.
"He said he felt the uncertainty of
the financial situation at the club, the fact he has a baby due any
day and that his work has been reduced meant he needed financial
assurance.
"He said he was disappointed to
have come to the decision, but would give 100 per cent if I wanted
him to stay and play. Well he did that and more. We kept the
situation quiet for his own good, but I don’t think anyone would
have been able to tell he was leaving from his performances.
"We are very disappointed to see
him go. I have total respect for him, he dealt with everything very
professionally."
Nott said Jay Saunders’ move to
Margate had also been handled appropriately but he "wanted to draw
a line" under the departures of midfielder Nick Barnes and keeper
Jamie Turner, who signed for Margate days after quitting the Stones
last week.
Stones face a trip to second-placed
Sutton tomorrow (Saturday) before a home clash with runaway Ryman
League Premier Division leaders Dartford on Tuesday night.
Nathan Paul (knee ligaments) is
expected to be out for a fortnight, as will Tom Parkinson (groin),
while James Peacock serves the final game of a four-match ban.
