Maidstone United keeper Jamie Turner reveals the truth about his departure

Goalkeeper Jamie Turner has shed some
light on the circumstances around his acrimonious departure from
Maidstone – and revealed as a parting gesture that he will not seek
money he is still owed by the club.
Turner (pictured) left the Stones this
week after asking manager Peter Nott to de-register him, and
declaring himself unavailable for selection.
His decision came amid a back-drop of
unpaid wages, managerial changes and Maidstone being embroiled in a
relegation scrap on the pitch.
However, Turner angered fans by
signing for Ryman League Premier Division rivals Margate just days
later and he appeared in their defeat to Tonbridge on Tuesday
alongside other ex-Stones Jay Saunders and Nick Barnes.
Maidstone’s website inferred that
Turner had asked to quit the club as he wanted to take a break from
the game. However, Turner said: "I never told anyone I wanted to
take a break.
"I said that if no other teams came in
for me that I would take a break and sort out a hernia I have been
carrying for the past two-and-a-half years and then look towards
next season.
"That didn’t happen, when word got out
that I had left I had three calls, two from Ryman League teams, and
I am now a Margate player."
The 30-year-old refused to comment on
the off-field problems plighting the club – with six weeks of
players’ wages being deferred until the end of the season – and
added: "I just want to draw a line under everything and get on with
playing football.
"I hope Maidstone get a ground of
their own, the fans deserve it and the club deserves it. But I am
moving on."
Turner also revealed that he has
informed Stones chairman Paul Bowden-Brown he will not seek the
money he is still owed.
