Kent County Cricket Club say they want to play at grounds around the county

Kent chief executive Jamie Clifford this week reaffirmed the county’s intentions to continue taking cricket around the county.

The 2012 fixture list was announced this week with Tunbridge Wells Festival Week staging all forms of cricket for the first time, but Maidstone - which last staged first-class cricket in 2005 - was again missing from the list.

Mr Clifford said: "We want to continue to take cricket around the county and are in dialogue (with The Mote)."

Officials at The Mote are continuing to work on plans to improve the facilities at the club, a key factor in Kent returning to the county town in the future.

Kent life-member Dennis Fowle, chairman of the four-man development committee at the Willow Way club, said: "We have been talking to Maidstone Council about improvements to the ground.

"They are ongoing and involve a new pavilion but it can only be funded by enabling an residential development."

The club are also continuing to renovate the historic Tabernacle building adjacent to the pavilion. Two grants of £10,000 from Kent County Council’s Capital Sports Funding and the Cobtree Charity Trustees have helped toward the cost of a new roof and improvements to exterior walls.

Mr Fowle added: "We are seeking further funding and will hopefully complete the work in the next two months. We want to create a centre for youth sport excellence, administration facilities for the club and changing facilities for officials."

The Nevill at Tunbridge Wells will stage a Championship match against Hampshire, Northamptonshire in the Clydesdale Bank 40 and the opening Friends Life t20 game against Sussex.

The Pavilion maybe out of date, but is it necessary to replace it with a new one. Why not build a new Pavilion by the side of it and leave this lovely old building as a Stand only? Look how well the Les Ames Stand at Canterbury has been converted instead of pulling it down(as originally proposed)

Yes, there are now real grounds for optimism that Kent cricket will return to The Mote, Maidstone. Kent County Cricket Club is enthusiastic about proposals emerging to modernise The Mote CC ground and has reiterated its desire to play again in the County Town. The Mote CC has been working during the year with partners on a new blueprint to renovate and improve ground facilities. These would include replacing the existing 101-year-old pavilion (now past its sell-by date) with a superb and majestic building serving both modern sporting needs and providing an excellent social facility for both sports people and the local community. Already the exterior of the adjoining historic Tabernacle has been renovated and we plan to create a significant centre for youth sport in it. Other improvements will include increased hard-standing parking. If all can be achieved there is real hope that Maidstone’s impoverished sport and social life will be enhanced by return of the annual Kent cricket festival we lost six years ago. It comes at a cost around £2m and in today’s harsh financial climate the only source will be an enabling residential development on a small area within the site. We work closely with Kent Cricket Club, Maidstone Council, Maidstone Rugby Club and others. Soon we hope to appoint a development partner so that a full planning application can be prepared.

Mr Clifford, your predecessors biggest c@@k up was leaving the Mote in the first place - and depending on who you talk to how much he had to do with it too. He didn't give a monkeys by upsetting an awful lot of people who have walked away from the County. That said boy oh boy given last season's result's and performances the county need back!

Forget the "upgrading" of Beckenham and spend the money where it should have been spent in the first place - in our county town!

Try a bit harder Mr Clifford because I won't watch Kent until they're back in the county town.
