Maidstone rugby club close in on a game at Twickenham in the Senior Vase

by Craig Tucker
Maidstone Rugby Club are two wins
away from a day out at Twickenham after an impressive Senior Vase
victory.
A regional semi-final between teams
boasting 100% league records was expected to be close but Maidstone
thrashed Old Priorians 38-0 at The Mote last Saturday.
Coach Andy Foley (pictured), whose
side are one of only three unbeaten teams in England at their
level, said: "It was our best performance of the season. They were
a good side but we just played well.
"We had a straightforward game-plan to
keep the ball, play in the right areas and keep the penalty count
low and the boys responded to the instructions."
He added: "We always wanted to do well
in this competition and we were keen to see how we’d cope against
one of the better sides at our level.
"Old Priorians were a nice bunch of
guys. They knew it was going to be tough against us but they were a
little shell-shocked.
"We’re two wins away from Twickenham
and fingers crossed, we can get there."
Maidstone will face Beccles or
Cantabrigians at home in the regional final on March 16.
If they win that, they’ll play a
national semi-final over Easter for a place at Twickenham.
London 3 South East leaders Maidstone
return to league action with a trip to Ashford tomorrow
(Saturday).
