Winger Rory Hill could make his first start for Maidstone United against Folkestone Invicta
by Craig Tucker
Maidstone United have signed
winger Rory Hill following his release by Tonbridge.
Hill
(pictured) will be pushing for a start at Folkestone on
Saturday after making his debut as a second-half substitute in
United’s 3-1 midweek win at Corinthian-Casuals.
Blue Square Bet South Angels
released Hill to save money and United moved quickly to sign
him.
Stones boss Jay Saunders said:
"Right-midfield is a position I’d been keeping an eye on since
Warren Whitely left and Rory stood out when we played Tonbridge in
pre-season and the Kent Senior Cup.
"Tim and Ade Olorunda used to play
with him and when Tonbridge let him go, he got in touch with
them.
"He’s quick and direct and likes to
get at full-backs.
"We gave him 20 minutes on Tuesday
and he put in two great balls that we could have scored from."
Striker Stuart King (knee) is a
doubt to face his former club, while midfielder Ben Greenhalgh
remains on trial at Inverness.
The decision to release popular
midfielder Ben Davisson at the end of last week sparked big debate
on the fans’ forum.
Saunders rates Davisson but is
confident he made the right decision.
He said: "At this level, you need
more of a physical presence in midfield, especially away from home.
He’d been out injured for a long time and I couldn’t see him
getting back in."
