Muslim centre approved

A Scheme to turn a pub into a Muslim centre have been
unanimously voted through.
Planning councillors voted 11-0 on Wednesday night to
replace the South Eastern Tavern in Torrington Road, Ashford, with
the centre for Ashford Muslim Association, providing classes and
prayers.
The scheme had caused local opposition with a 155-signature
petition raised against it and eight letters of objection.
But Ashford Borough Council planning officers had recommended
approval, saying the numbers of people visiting the premises would
be no more than if it was still a pub.

Kentish Express.
