Charity motorcyclist Spencer Conway has bike smashed by gang

Motorcyclist Spencer Conway

Charity motorcyclist Spencer Conway fell foul of an angry gang who smashed his bike while he was visiting Egypt.

Mr Conway, from Biddenden, is undertaking an epic 24,000-mile charity trek to circumnavigate Africa.

He said farewell to friends, family and supporters earlier this month as he started his journey, which takes in 28 countries.

In an email to the Kentish Express, he said: “Although most people have been wonderful my bike was smashed up – lights, wing, mirrors – by a group of about 10 guys when I refused their hospitality of a room for £50.

“This was in the city of Sohag  in Egypt, which I later found out has some dodgy areas. I have to sit tight in Aswan until November 30 to await the ferry to take me across Lake Nasser to the Sudanese port of Wadi Halfa.”

Mr Conway’s adventure, in aid of Save The Children, has the backing of actor Richard E. Grant, pictured, and Prince Harry.

He added: “I have made it through France, Tunisia and Libya and down the west coast of the stunning Nile river – the longest in the world at 2,400 miles and the foundation of Egyptian civilisation.”
