Fire crews tackle blaze at Dungeness power station

Ten fire crews from across Kent tackled a fire at Dungness B
nuclear power station last night and this morning.
The station’s own fire team summoned help at about midnight
after a fire broke out in unit 22 boiler annexe, which is related
to the second reactor.
Martin Bultin, spokesman for British Energy, said: “Station
personnel called the fire brigade who put it out quickly.
“We turned reactor 22 off. There was no release of radioactivity
and no one was injured.”
“We are looking into the cause.”
He added: “The station fire team helped Kent Fire Service to put
the fire out.”
By 9am this morning two fire crews remained on the scene,
though the blaze was out.
