Video: Rapper Chipmunk performs for pupils at Ashford's Highworth Grammar School

by Luke Hollands

School days will never be the same again for a group of Ashford pupils, who were visited by a chart-topping star.

Highworth school, Ashford, won a national competition organised by social networking website MySpace to have MOBO award-winning superstar Chipmunk play in their school hall.

The Grime artist, whose hits include Oopsy Daisy, Diamond Rings and Chip Diddy Chip, was joined on stage by up and coming rock act You and Me at Six, who have just returned from touring America and are set to play at Wembley Arena next year.

The competition was supported by the Department of Health to encourage teenagers to visit www.teenlifecheck.co.uk which covers topics like drugs, alcohol, personal safety, healthy eating and exercise.

The Kentish Express managed to grab an exclusive video interview with Chipmunk before he took to the stage.

    The performance.

I still can't believe he came to perform at our school! It was the concert ever performed by a well-known artist there, and the experience was phenomenal. On behalf of the whole of Highworth Grammar School, I'd like to say thank you, partically because it was all free! With all the stress of GCSE's, and the continous routine of school; this concert really gave us some high spirits: especially when Chipmunk said (quote)- "It's not cool to dumb. So do well with your A levels, and don't give up hope!"
Thank you MySpace and Teen LifeCheck once more.
