Road closed in Hythe after accident between lorry and scooter

Accident in Hythe involving mobility scooter and van

An elderly woman has been airlifted to hospital in a serious condition after after an acident involving a mobility scooter and a van in Hythe this morning.

The woman was on the scooter crossing Scanlons Bridge Road over the Royal Military Canal at 10.20am when she was in collision with a vehicle recovery van near the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch railway station.

She was treated at the scene by paramedics and then flown to hospital in London with serious injuries by the Kent Air Ambulance.

Scanlons Bridge Road, which links Military Road and Dymchurch Road, is still closed.

There is a diversion in place but there are long traffic tailbacks in the area.

The road is expected to be closed for several hours and motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.

Police forensic officers are carrying out an investigation.

Officers have appealed for witnesses to contact the serious collision investigation unit on 01622 798538.
