Fountain runs dry

Ashford's High Street fountain has failed to spring back
into action after the winter.
The circular fountain in the town’s Lower High Street has not been
working since last summer.
Ashford council say it is possible the fountain might not be fixed
this year at all because of budgetary pressures.
Problems with the mechanisms that supply the water mean it sits
quietly with a battered sign apologising for it not working.
Paul Jackson, Ashford council’s head of environmental services,
told the Kentish Express: “Since last summer we have been working
with contractors to identify the exact nature of the problem. Some
issues have been identified, but others remain outstanding.
“We hope to be able to restore the fountain to working order for
the summer, but this will be dependent upon the council’s financial
position.”
During the winter months the fountain is normally turned off, but
it is usually running by April.
See tomorrow's Kentish Express for the full story.
