Police want to speak to a group of teenagers after a suspected arson attack at Boughton Aluph near Ashford.

Officers are investigating after 250 bales worth £6,000 were destroyed in a blaze at Wilmington farm at Canterbury Road on Wednesday evening.

Three fire engines and a water unit were called to the scene and firefighters extinguished the fire using hose reels by 7.30pm.

Investigators want to trace six youngsters, aged about 14 years old,  who were seen playing on the bales before 4pm.

DC Darren Manktelow said: "I would like to hear from any parents whose child returned home on Wednesday afternoon possibly smelling of smoke.

"I would also urge parents to tell their children about the dangers of playing near farms and the dangers and consequences of starting fires. Arson is a very serious crime and we will be making a number of enquiries in order to find those responsible."

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC David Chapman on 101 - quoting crime reference ZY/6555/13 - or Kent Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
