Bank staff thwart theft of elderly Folkestone woman's life savings
A bogus caller targeting a pensioner at home
An investigation has been launched after an attempted scam to steal an elderly Folkestone woman's life savings.
A man claiming to be a police officer investigating a fraud case phoned the 77-year-old and convinced her to go to her bank to withdraw cash.
But before she made a withdrawal, bank staff raised suspicions and contacted Kent Police, who are now investigating.
Police today issued residents a warning about bogus callers and advised people to be aware.
DC Dan Spicer said: "This incident has been very upsetting for the woman concerned. Fortunately bank staff were suspicious and called Kent Police and no money was taken.
"But we would warn people that these thieves are operating and will try anything to trick people out of their money."
