Hickman family eye more success in South-East Area Point-to-Point at Charing

Mount Sandel

Point-to-point racing is set to resume in the South East at Charing on Sunday, with a strong entry, perfect jumping ground and a dry, sunny forecast.

It could be an auspicious day for the Hickman family. Former Homewood School pupil Frankie, 16, rides Mount Sandel (pictured) in the ladies' race and could be heading for her third win of the season having been successful at Tweseldown before leading all the way at Charing last month.

It would be consolation for missing the hunter chase at Folkestone, which was snowed off.

With her father, ex-jockey Peter, on hand and her mother Alison as trainer, Frankie could be following her brother Will into the winners' enclosure as Mr Maybe will be strongly fancied for the first race.

Placed four times last year, he reappeared at Charing last month taking command with four fences to go only to be run out of it by the highly-promising No Pain No Gain.

The shorter trip, two-and-a-half miles, should suit.

Will rides old favourite Man From Moscow in the men's open, where likely opposition will be Peter Bull's Master T, Swordsman of the Gordon yard and She Is A Cracker for George Gorman from among the 18 entered.

Philip Hall, leading the riders' championship after his double at the last meeting, has entered No Pain No Gain in the restricted and Adept Approach in the conditions.

Snow on the course had melted by Tuesday, the frost was coming out of the ground and the forecast was for rising temperatures before a dry, sunny Sunday.

The first race, for ponies, is at 11.15am, with the main programme from 12.30pm.
