Runners out in force for Barretts Ashford and District 10k

More than 700 athletes competed in the Barretts Ashford and
District Lions 10k at Sandyacres Sports Club on Sunday morning with
Robert Latala and Liz Weeks claiming the major awards.
Latala (pictured) had local support as a member of Ashford AC
but was never under pressure as he coasted to victory in 33min20sec
over Stephen Throssell’s personal best (34.35) for Larkfield AC and
Matt Britton (34.42) of Ashford AC.
The top 60 runners were under 40 minutes and local men in form
included Harry Paton (35.55, Tonbridge); Andrew Pickett (37.20) and
Daniel Pyne (37.22) of Dartford Harriers; M40 Mark Champion (37.41,
Istead and Ifield); M45 Dean Painter (38.38) and M40 Paul Mason of
Larkfield); Jonathan Riordan (39.14, Paddock Wood); James McGuigan
(39.21, Sevenoaks); M50 Adrian Moody (39.23, Medway and Maidstone)
and M45 Paul Barton (39.50, Paddock Wood).
Liz Weeks (36.39) set a lifetime best to win the women’s race
for her club Sittingbourne Striders. Podium places were claimed by
Rona Loubser (38.19, Folkestone) and Nicola Groom (38.42,
Larkfield).
Also inside 40 minutes were Victoria Kenny (39.42, Tri Spirit
Team) and Faye Roberts (39.55, Canterbury). W40 Lynne Champion
(42.45, Istead and Ifield) and W35 Penny Holden (43.13, Maidstone
Harriers) enjoyed top ten finishes.
