Video: Graffiti Vandals payback for their crimes

Two vandals who daubed their paint
tags in more than 20 locations across Tankerton are paying the
price for their offending - by spending three months cleaning up
graffiti in the district.
Art students Craig Scott and Daniel
Singer are the first to be dealt with under a new community payback
scheme in which they have received conditional cautions for their
offending.

Their conditions involve joining
the city council’s Serco Graffiti Busting team every Tuesday until
mid August to carry out the work.
They were caught after police
investigated the source of their ‘road kill’ tag which disfigured
numerous buildings and signs. Enquiries led them to the teenagers’
homes in Tankerton which were searched and computer equipment
confiscated.
The pair, who are students at
Canterbury College, later admitted their guilt and were offered the
community payback punishment instead of prosecution for criminal
damage and a criminal record.
On Tuesday they started the first
of their sessions, repainting a graffiti covered wall at Whitstable
post office. They were watched by the city council Community Safety
Officer, Graham Simpson and PC James Gall and supervised by members
of the Serco graffiti squad.
After their graffiti busting
sessions, the pair have then been tasked with spending a further
three months working on community art projects.
Anyone with information on
vandalism or graffiti in their neighbourhood can call
Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111 or their local police
community support officer.
