Young and old get to meet the new flock at Kent College farm open day

Video: Visitors get to meet this year's texel lamb flock at Kent College.

Petting a lamb was the main attraction at a farm open day in Rough Common on Saturday.

This year’s texel flock were the centre of attention, as youngsters took the opportunity to hold and feed them at Moat Lane.

The farm, run by Kent College, also looks after ponies, horses, pigs and cows and helps GCSE students with their environmental and land based science studies. The college’s Young Farmers Club is open to students at both the junior and senior school, giving them a chance to take part in the Kent County Agricultural Show at the end of the academic year.

Farm manager Beatrice Boyle was delighted to see families dropping in for a look round.

She said: “We’ve had fewer orphans this year, which is why there’s not as many being petted as last year. It’s nice to open our doors to the community as well and show the work that young people do here to learn more about farming.”
