Public to get chance to view bridge designs for Crab and Winkle way in Whitstable

Proposed bridge design
for the Crab and Winkle Way across Teynham Road looking
towards Old Bridge Road.
Designs for two new bridges linking
the extended Crab and Winkle cycle path are to go on display later
this month.
A public exhibition at the
Horsebridge Centre on Friday, March 12, and Saturday, March 13,
will allow local people to give their views on the proposed bridges
crossing Old Bridge Road and Teynham Road.
The designs are going on display
before planning permission is sought. The bridges would form part
of a new route for pedestrians and cyclists, between the existing
Crab and Winkle Way at All Saints Close and Whitstable
seafront.
Planning permission was granted
last September by Canterbury City Council, but construction will
not begin until permission is also granted for the new bridges.
The project is a partnership
between sustainable transport charity Sustrans, Kent County
Council, Canterbury City Council and The Crab and Winkle Line
Trust. Once complete, the multimillion-pound scheme will complete a
greenway and promenade along a 12-mile stretch of coastline.
It will also connect the existing
Crab and Winkle Way between Whitstable and Canterbury with the
Viking Coastal Trail in Thanet and the Oyster Bay Trail between
Whitstable and Reculver.
Sustrans regional director Simon
Pratt hopes the public exhibition will be well attended.
He said: “This will be the first
time people can come and see the new bridge plans, so we hope they
take this opportunity to come and talk to the project team and give
us their feedback.
“These bridges are for Whitstable
so it’s important for the local people to see the proposed designs
and have a say.”
After the exhibition, the designs
will go on display at Whitstable Library from Monday, March 15
until Friday, March 26.
The exhibition at The
Horsebridge Centre will be open from noon until 5pm on Friday,
March 12, and from 9am to 1pm on Saturday, March 13.
