Recyling sacks U-turn
Canterbury City Council
has today completed a stunning U-turn following a public
outcry over a lack of recycling sacks.
Executive members – the same
people who introduced a controversial cost-cutting service
last June – have agreed to bin it and hand out more sacks to houses
in the district.
The decision – costing an
extra £37,000 a year – was made in light of a wave of criticism
over the now-redundant system, which cut the number of rolls per
delivery from two to one.
It is also a huge victory
for the Kentish Gazette, which campaigned for the change.
It now means any family who
has registered for more sacks will receive an extra roll every four
months.
