CCTV appeal after racially aggravated assault in Canterbury

Police hope the public can trace five men they wish to
speak to in connection with a racially aggravated assault in
Canterbury.
CCTV images have been released of the group as investigations
continue into the attack in Dover Street on December 27.
Two black men were set upon by a group of five white men around
2.15am after an argument at a nearby nightclub earlier that
evening.
Investigating officer, PC Nick Bell said: “When the men left the
club to make their way home they were set upon by the group.
“It was a completely unprovoked attack and because of some of
the remarks made by the group during the assault we are treating it
as racially motivated.”
One of the victims, who wished to remain anonymous, needed
stitches to a cut lip and suffered bruising to his hand.
He said: “I was so shocked by what happened as there was
absolutely no reason for it. They appeared to be lying in wait for
us as we left the club.
“I would hate for this to happen to anyone else.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Kent Police on
101 or Kent Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 quoting crime
