Helicopter launched in search for burglars

A police helicopter was scrambled to Whitstable after two men were seen fleeing the scene of a burglary.

Officers raced to Tankerton Road at 1.30pm on Thursday to reports the men had raided a flat and escaped with a laptop and computer games.

The helicopter was flown in from Rochester and helped patrols on the ground in their search for the culprits.

A 19-year-old man from Canterbury was arrested in Pier Avenue, Tankerton, at 1.55pm.

Less than 30 minutes later a 21-year-old man – also from Canterbury – was arrested in an alleyway in Graystone Road, Tankerton.

They were taken into custody for questioning.
