The body of a young man has been found in a burning car in Herne
The grim discovery was made after fire crews put out the blaze
in Alma Road at about 6.30pm yesterday.
Kent Police are investigating the cause and the man's death is
being treated as unexplained.
The incident stunned neighbours and a few pieces of
broken glass was all that remained of the scene after the car was
removed for analysis today.
It took two fire crews to put out the blaze – and
make the horrifying discovery of a body in the car.
Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman Jo Harfleet said: "Kent Fire and
Service was called at 6.32pm to reports of a car on fire in Alma
Road, Herne Bay.
"Two fire engines were sent and crews tackled the blaze using
two hose reel jets and breathing apparatus.
"There has been one confirmed fatality. The cause of the
incident is being investigated by the police and our fire
Kent Police spokesman Adam Westgarth said: "Officers were called
by the fire service to Alma Road, Herne Bay, at 6.30pm on Thursday
to an incident in which a man has died as a result of a fire.
"We are treating the death as unexplained and are working with
the fire service to establish the cause of the fire and the
circumstances surrounding the incident."
