Funeral of Canterbury man Robert Wellstead will take place at Barham Crematorium
The funeral of Canterbury man Robert Wellstead will take place on Tuesday.
Father Robert Wellstead died in hospital
Friends and members of his extended family will attend Barham Crematorium to pay their respects to the 56-year-old, who was the youngest of 10 children.
Mr Wellstead was found lying in the road outside the house in Oxford Road where he lived and cared for his bedridden mother.
He was taken to an air ambulance which had landed at Victoria Rec and then flown to King’s College Hospital where he died on Monday 9.
His brain had been damaged by a fall and his family decided to turn his life support machine off.
A post-mortem later showed that he was suffering from a severe heart condition.
Mr Wellstead’s last years were spent looking after his mother Enid, 90.
His sister Shirley Wilkie, 59, said: “He would wash her, he would clean her.
“He was not a fabulous cook, but he would make sure she had what she wanted. If she wanted a chocolate bar, he would get up and go to the shops to get it.
“He was a real character and was wonderful to people. They just loved being around him. He would go out of his way to help anybody.”
The funeral will take place at 2pm on Tuesday.
