Whitstable Town boss Justin Luchford to make first return to former club Faversham Town
Whitstable boss Justin Luchford returns to former club
Faversham on Saturday for the first time since his shock
resignation just over a year ago.
It is sure to give the Ryman League Division 1 South derby an
added edge, Luchford having quit last March saying his position had
become "untenable" and he couldn’t stay, after three-and-a-half
successful seasons at Salters Lane, during which time he took them
into the Ryman League for the first time.
Luchford (pictured) was appointed boss at Premier Division
Horsham three months later but left by mutual content last October,
before joining the Oystermen a month later, following Peter Nott’s
Luchford’s assistant Richard Langley said: "Justin hasn’t been
back since he left but has never really spoken about what happened
Brother Dane is also likely to face his former club but
long-term casualty Dale Skelton misses out on a return after
suffering serious knee ligament damage earlier this season. He is
set for an operation in the summer.
James Pinnock has recovered from illness, while Alfie Munn and
Joe Hitchings are added to the squad.
Faversham boss Ray Turner, who succeeded Luchford at
Salters Lane, said: "Both teams have kind of done the job in terms
of their league positions but it’s a game that’s obviously
important in terms of local pride.
"Matches at this stage of the season, with nothing on them, can
be a bit tame but hopefully not this one.
"We should get a good crowd and hopefully the players will get
the chance to express themselves."
Justin Ascheri returns to the squad after serving a two-match
ban but Ashley Brown is unavailable because of a family
Nicky Humphrey (hamstring injury) faces a fitness test.
