Canterbury suffer defeat in semi-final of Maxifuel Super Sixes national indoor championships at Wembley Arena
Canterbury’s dream of a place in the Maxifuel Super Sixes
Final was ended by champions East Grinstead at the semi-final stage
on Sunday.
The city club quickly found themselves 3-0 down against the
four-time champions at Wembley Arena.
Ben Allberry and Devohn Teixeria netted for Canterbury before
the break but the East Sussex side were 6-2 ahead at half-time,
thanks in large part to a hat-trick from GB international Niall
Stott.
Huw Stevens reduced the arrears but another two Grinstead goals
followed before Canterbury replaced keeper Ben Cowling with an
outfield player as they sought to stage a comeback.
Allberry was thwarted several times by the East Grinstead keeper
before Liam Foster and Michael Farrer (pictured) goals gave them a
glimmer of hope with two goals in less than two minutes.
However, Stott had the final say with his fourth and it was the
defending champions who went through to the final where they
retained their crown with a 7-1 win over Reading.
