Faversham Town manager Ray Turner sets sights on strong finish after 'wake-up call' derby defeat

Faversham Town boss Ray Turner thinks the Lilywhites could
be just 10 points away from securing a play-off place – so long as
they can recover from their derby defeat against Whitstable.
Town are third in Ryman League, Division 1 South but face six of
the top eight sides in the final six weeks of the season.
However, Turner (pictured) hopes it will bring the best out of
them after the dismal 4-1 loss to the Oystermen at Salters Lane on
Saturday to end their eight-game unbeaten run.
Turner said: "We’ve had a couple of strange results like that
this season. We’ve had a long unbeaten run and then bang, we’ve
been well beaten.
"Perhaps it was coming but whether it was or not, it is a
wake-up call for us going into our last eight games of the
season.
"We’ve recovered well after our losses this season, hopefully we
can do that again."
He added: "There is still an exciting end to the season ahead of
us. Even though the players were sombre in the dressing room after
the game, we have to pick ourselves up for the big games to
come."
Town have taken 61 points from 34 games but only face one team
outside the top 10 before the end of the campaign and Turner said:
"One of our strengths is the fact that we have taken points off the
teams around us.
"If we could win at Crawley Down on Saturday, then we’ll be 14
points ahead of them with seven games to go and they’d have to go a
long way to finish above us.
"I’m not going to set any points targets for us but if we could
get over 70 points, then it would be a fantastic achievement and
make us difficult to catch for a play-off place."
