Boy, 15, charged after policeman injured in Chatham hit-and-run

Police have launched a manhunt after an officer was struck by a car in a routine check.

A teenage boy has been charged after a policeman was injured in a hit-and-run in Chatham.

The 15-year-old, from Chatham, is accused of aggravated vehicle taking.

The charge comes after the officer was knocked to the ground and suffered a head injury as he made a routine stop on a vehicle in Luton Road, Chatham, at about 6.50pm on Saturday.

The black car is said to have sped off before being abandoned around the corner in Constitution Road.

The policeman, believed to be in his late 30s, was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital, Gillingham, by ambulance.

Kent Police said he had been discharged by Sunday morning.

The 15-year-old has been released on police bail ahead of a hearing at Medway Youth Court on Wednesday, January 2.

A 16-year-old boy, also from Chatham, arrested over the incident has been released without charge.
