Kent has been put on snow alert - with freezing conditions forecast for the next few days.

Some snow fell in the county overnight, with flurries as far apart as Whitstable and Medway this morning.

Forecasters are predicting it will get brighter by lunchtime, but Greg Dewhurst from the Met Office said that won't last long: "It certainly looks like most places will see rain as we go into this afternoon and into the evening.

"There's a low risk that the rain will turn to sleet and possibly into snow as we head into Tuesday morning."

Gritters have been out treating the main roads in the county, but drivers are being told to take extra care on the roads.

Kent Fire and Rescue has also issued advice to stay safe but keep warm. That includes keeping portable heaters free of dust and sweeping the chimney before starting an open fire.
