Lorry driver has a bad day in Dover

Train services from Dover have resumed, but Coombe Valley Road is still closed to traffic, after a lorry crashed into a railway bridge, and then reversed into a bus.

Police officers were called to the bridge at Coombe Valley Road, Dover, just after 10am on Tuesday, December 1.

The collision with the bridge caused a girder to crack and Network Rail engineers were called in to examine the extent of the damage. Train services between Dover and Canterbury and between Dover and Ramsgate were suspended while repair work was carried out.

The road under the bridge was also closed, with motorists being diverted via River. The road remained closed on Wednesday morning. Scaffolding has been put up under the bridge to enable further repairs to be carried out.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact the police on 01304 240055.
