Protesters form human chain around Kingsnorth power station

More than a thousand people formed a human chain around
Kingsnorth on Saturday to protest against plans for a new power
station.
The campaigners, from a variety of groups and charities, joined
hands to form a line around a section of the Hoo peninsula
station.
Demonstrators dubbed the chain a 'Mili-band' after climate
secretary Ed Miliband, who will be making the decision on the
future of the power plant.
The owners of the plant, E.ON, want to build a new coal-fired
plant at the site.
There were concerns the protest could become aggressive after
Greenpeace campaigners boarded a
coal-carrying ship bound for Kingsnorth less than two weeks
ago.
But the main organisers, Oxfam, said the protest was always
intended to be a peaceful one, and no arrests have been
reported.
A fete was also held at the Hoo Village Institute with music,
food, children's activities, live music and a rally after the main
event.
