Man seriously injured after 'car jumping' incident

A man is seriously ill in hospital after an incident on the M2.

Emergency services were called to the coast-bound carriageway just after 6pm on Friday, Friday.

The incident involved a red Fiat Punto. It is thought the man may have jumped from the moving vehicle.

The victim was taken by ambulance to a hospital in London. No other vehicles are thought to have been involved and there were no passengers travelling in the car.

Police said the man sustained serious injuries.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said: “The car collided with the central reservation and set light to a small area of grass.

“The car was about 500 metres away from the victim.”

The M2 was closed between Junction 3 for Chatham and Junction 4 for Gillingham. Diversions were in place  and police were asking motorists to avoid the area.

investigation experts carried out an examination of the scene.

Some motorists have been delayed for two hours in the queue approaching Junction 3.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward. Anyone with any information which may help police with their enquiries is asked to contact the serious collision investigation unit on 01622 798535.

I agree with Mr Kurt Salter
I cannot believe the lack of compassion for the poor man whatever his reason he has my sympathy a wait in traffic is nothing. When compared .

Was there a fire? If so Why?

From reading the article it does sound like there was a sudden spread of fire around the driver which would have forced him to leave the car whilst it was moving. If this was the case and he was being burnet then his first reaction would be to just get out instead of thinking about stopping the car first. Hopefully we will get more detail once the investigation is finished.
Personally I’m more interested in what started the fire. Does the person smoke and was he at the time of when the fire started? I’ve never seen a report stating how many accidents were caused whilst the driver was smoking – but we see loads regarding accidents while you’re on a mobile phone?

At the end of the day - It’s very lucky that no one got killed…

    Have an open mind!!!!!

My first instinct was suicide which would have been very selfish as others could have been killed. Nobody seams to have explored the option that there could have been something wrong with the car though. If thats was the case and he had to jump out then it makes everyone look a bit small minded toward the poor guy really doesn't it. Maybe people should keep their opinions of their guesswork to themselves.

    What an idiot

I cannot think for the life of me why anyone in their right mind would jump out of a car, especially on the motorway. I must say I was extremely hacked off at being sat on the M2 for 3 and a half hours especially on a friday night. Although my thoughts may go out to his family, no thoughts go out to him as he made the choice to jump out of his car and he got what he deserved.

I was travelling london bound and saw this accident very shortly after it happened as there were no emergency vehicles there and the man was lying on the floor. Does anyone know the extent of the mans injuries?

Having been stuck on the M2 for over 3hrs on Friday it's still not any clearer what actually occurred. If this was attempted suicide then I hope that the media tell the truth rather than dress this up as Car jumping. Most other people after all seem perfectly able to remain in their cars on motorways.

If he ever recovers he wants to be taught some basic manners, his selfish behaviour made me late for the cinema and I missed the first 5 minutes of my film.

    I was there

This happened right in front of the car i was in on my way home. My thoughts go out to the man involved and his family, after such a bizzare occurance and painful injuries, he is lucky to be alive, and now in the best hands. I was the one who put out the fire, as i was the first to spot the car, it may be a write off, but he certianly isn't. All the best.
