The commemorative cover to mark the 15th anniversary of the Channel Tunnel
One of the greatest
modern achievements in engineering has just got the stamp of
approval.
The Channel Tunnel has its 15th Anniversary today, and a
set of stamps marks the occasion.
Officially opened in joint ceremonies by the Queen and France's
President Mitterrand on May 6 1994, it has since been
recognised as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern
World.
The Queen travelled from London’s Waterloo station, through the
tunnel in a high-speed Eurostar passenger train to attend the
ceremony.
She arrived at Calais at the same time as President Mitterrand’s
train, which had travelled from Paris’ Gard du Nord via Lille.
Now
Buckingham Covers has created a commemorative cover to mark the
anniversary of the official opening.
Illustrating the cover is an image of a Eurostar high speed
train from the inaugural year.
As the Channel Tunnel service effectively replaced the Golden
Arrow (which ran from London to Paris), a Golden Arrow stamp and
label from Buckingham's National Railway Museum Stamp Sheet has
been used on the cover, which is postmarked on the anniversary date
with a special Folkestone postmark.
The covers are £8.95 If you would like more details call 01303
