A music producer who
rallied singing stars to make a charity record for wounded troops
is hoping it goes to the top of the poppies.
Former Queen frontman Paul
Rodgers and crooner Michael Bolton were among the singing royalty
to join music mogul Cliff Masterson in a project to support Help
for Heroes.
The star-studded line-up,
which also included former Mike and The Mechanics singer Paul
Carrack and ex-Atomic Kitten Liz McClarnon, joined army drummers
and pipers for a 12-hour recording session involving more than 200
people at London’s Abbey Road Studios.
Their song, We Will Remember
Them, is already available for internet download, but Mr Masterson
has tipped it to challenge for the coveted Christmas number one
spot following its full release at the end of this
month.
The 36-year-old music
producer, composer and songwriter, from Higham, arranged the
recording session in just over a month following an idea which
brewed over a pub pint.
He said: "A friend of mine
wrote the song and five weeks ago we were sat in the pub thinking,
actually, it would be a perfect opportunity to raise some money for
a really good cause.
"We managed to pull in a huge
array of talent. They just gave of their time so willingly. These
were big stars who had no real reason for doing it, but they were
all unbelievable. It was one of those days where you could have
quite easily been overwhelmed."
Mr Masterson, who has worked
with pop princess Kylie Minogue and boy band Westlife, hopes the
single will raise thousands for the charity, which supports wounded
servicemen and women and their families.
"Every time I turn the news
on now it seems to be becoming more and more relevant. It’s a
great, great song and a really great cause. Just having the
commitment of those people who were there means so much. I just
hope the pantomime that is The X Factor doesn’t dominate again this
Christmas."
We Will Remember Them is
available to download on iTunes and is set for general release on
Sunday, November 29.
