Lifeboat crews rescue two from stricken boat

Lifeboat out on a rescue missionLifeboat crews battled force eight winds to rescue two men from a stricken day boat.

Communicating only through a mobile phone, the volunteers from the Sheerness All Weather Lifeboat plucked the two to safety from an 18ft craft off the Kentish wind farm near Whitstable.

At times during the rescue, at around 11.30am yesterday, visibility was down to a quarter of a mile - with heavy seas and driving rain.

Neither man rescued had a lifejacket or suitable clothing - and their boat was left as it was too dangerous to board and tow.

They were landed ashore and taken to the Boathouse, and were collected by a relative.

For some one who's been involved in boating and jrt sking all my life. it beggers believe that people are so nieve and don't have the correct equipment. Any one going out at sea should make sure every person on board is correctly dressed in life jacket or bouyancy aid and suitable clothing. A vessel going that far should have at least flares and a vhf radio. Checking the shipping forecast before any voyague is a must. This equiipment in comparsion to the cost incurred with water sports is minimal. There is simply no execuse to indanger the lives of the crew and the rescuers.
