Storms cause more ferry misery

Cross-Channel ferry services from Dover are being disrupted
again because of the bad weather in the Channel.
Services with all the ferry operators to Calais, Boulogne and
Dunkirk are subject to delays.
The two-masted tall ship Stavros Niarchos took shelter
in the Downs at Deal. She was sailing from London to the
Bay of Biscay when conditions worsened and the crew decided to
anchor off the east Kent coast.
Ferry sailings were suspended from Dover on Sunday and
Dover
Castle was closed to visitors as gale-force winds swept across
the area. A spokesman for English Heritage said the
castle was closed for safety reasons. It is open again today, but
some areas may be restricted because of the wind.
Ferries were delayed and then suspended altogether due
to the rough conditions in the Channel.
