Second lorry overturns at Cowstead Corner roundabout

Another lorry has overturned at Cowstead Corner roundabout, SheppeyA second lorry has overturned in as many days at the same place on the Isle of Sheppey - after hitting the car of a man investigating the previous crash!

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the incident at about 10.20am on the Cowstead Corner roundabout, near to the bridge.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters from Sheppey and Sittingbourne attended, but were not needed to release anyone from the vehicle.

The lorry was in collision with a Vauxhall Vectra that was parked at the side of the roundabout.

The Vectra is owned by a Highways Agency contractor who was at the scene investigating yesterday’s RTC in which an HGV overturned at Cowstead Corner.

No-one was in the Vectra at the time of the incident and the driver of the lorry was not injured.

Police patrols attended and closed the roundabout to traffic.

Although Sheppey-bound traffic is still able to use the Sheppey Crossing vehicles travelling towards Sittingbourne are being diverted over the Kingsferry Bridge.

I saw this shortly after the collison and all i can say, accidents do happen regardless of who is to blame, to know no one was in the car is such a releif, if he had been he certainly would not be here now. thank the lucky stars.

i agree with jackys comment about cutting up a lorry it also drives me mad as an hgv driver when car drivers cut into the gap that i have left behind another hgv not realising they could be the meat in an 88 tonne sandwich a as for claires comment yes some hgv drivers do go too fast into a roundabout but not all accidents happen at speed poor loading or a high centre of gravity due to firms putting increasingly high trailers on the road in the name of increased productivity can also be attributted to rollover accidents a car drivers need more education about hgv blindspots to avoid the increasing collisions involving foreign hgvs

Taking bets that Saturday will see another lorry hit another car on the roundabout, that will be investigating the lorry that hit the car that was investigating the lorry that crashed!!!

    Odds on for a treble.

Sounds like a Fawlty Towers episode on wheels.

It is my personal opinion that lorry drivers MUST slow down especially when joining roundabouts. I'm sure these accidents could then be avoided.
