A body has been found in the River Medway.

Police were called to the riverside, at the back of the Malta Inn at about 11.30am today.

A member of staff from the Environment Agency, which is based at Allington Lock, said he had seen about 12 police officers in the area.

He said: “The body was reported by a member of the public and then I secured the site.

“The body was recovered by the police marine section.

“It was between Allington Lock and Allington Marina.”
